Flail Like Ed is a four-piece, original rock and roll band, based in Vernon, Connecticut. With members hailing from places as far away as New Haven and the Boston area, Flail Like Ed's geography is as diverse as its influences. With over 40 songs in its active repertoire, Flail Like Ed focuses mainly on its own original music. The band features Al Rose and Bruce Sabian on vocals and guitar, Ron Perkins on bass, and Joe Anastasio on drums and vocals. Principal songwriters Rose and Sabian draw from influences including The Replacements, Buffalo Tom, and The Beatles in their songwriting. Many of Flail Like Ed's songs have a strong guitar sound that is influenced by punk and alternative rock bands. That heavy guitar sound underlies a songwriting approach that is lyrical and melodic, giving Flail Like Ed a sound that rocks, but also plays into a full range of emotional and topical content. Combine these influences with psychedelic, improvisational tendencies informed by the Grateful Dead and The Verve and you begin to get an idea behind Flail Like Ed's sound. Flail Like Ed also plays a small but varied list of covers. Currently in the repertoire are songs by REM, Buffalo Tom, The Replacements, Jefferson Airplane, Cheap Trick, Matthew Sweet, and Elvis Costello.
